MALAYSIA, 20/06/2024 (Asia News Channels) - Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan, founder and chairman of Waz Lian Group, passed away on June 15 at the age of 72. According to company officials, Ta, who celebrated his birthday last month, passed away in his sleep.
Ta established Waz Lian Group in 1987, initially focusing on club management before expanding into hotel and resort management, and later, property development. He was also the founder of the real estate company Majestic Gen Sdn Bhd, which plans to launch projects valued at RM3.5 billion in 2024 and 2025. Ta held a direct 12.38% stake in Fajarbaru Builder Group Bhd as of April 16, according to filings with Bursa Malaysia.
In addition to his business ventures, Ta was deeply involved in several associations. He sat on the Socio-Economic Research Centre (SERC) advisory panel and was an eminent member of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). He also held honorary positions in the Federation of Fujian Associations of Malaysia, the Malaysian Xing’an Association, the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Volleyball Association of Malaysia.
The business community has expressed deep sorrow over Ta's passing.
Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul and his wife, along with Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong Keng Shin, paid respects alongside leaders like Tan Sri Kwong Hon Kwong and Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai. Political figures including MPs and assemblymen also attended, underscoring Ta’s broad influence. The funeral hall was adorned with over a hundred floral tributes, including wreaths from Sultan Ibrahim, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, singer Gary Chaw (曹格), and Tan Sri Vincent Tan, creating a solemn yet elegant setting.
Ta's philanthropic work was extensive, often donating anonymously to schools, charities, and non-governmental organizations. Minister Tengku Zafrul conveyed condolences, highlighting Ta’s impact on the Chinese community.
Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s legacy spans business success, community leadership, and philanthropy, leaving a lasting imprint on Malaysian society. His passing marks a significant loss, mourned deeply across sectors and communities alike.
