06/10/2023 (Malaysia) - Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has instructed all broadband internet service providers to reduce their prices starting in September. This move is in line with the implementation of the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP), which aims to lower internet wholesale prices and make packages more affordable.

In response to this directive, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has introduced new Unifi broadband packages with significantly reduced prices. Notably, the Unifi 100 Mbps plan is temporarily available at RM99 per month, aligning with the previous 30 Mbps plan priced at RM89 per month. This change is aimed at providing faster internet speeds to a wider range of Malaysians at more budget-friendly rates.

One key feature of this initiative is that eligible Unifi customers will receive an automatic upgrade without any obligations or the need to re-contract their services. This upgrade will be rolled out in phases, continuing until January 2024.

Anand Vijayan, Unifi's executive vice-president, explained that these new packages are designed to enhance customer satisfaction and digital inclusivity among Malaysians. The overarching goal is to improve connectivity, including the adoption of 5G technologies, thereby contributing to the nation's digital aspirations.

As the country's leading quad-play convergence service provider, Unifi offers a comprehensive range of fixed broadband, mobile, lifestyle services, and business solutions. This approach ensures that individuals, families, and small businesses enjoy the best possible digital experiences whether at home or on the go, as highlighted by Anand during a recent media briefing.

Furthermore, Unifi is introducing a converged 100 Mbps high-speed broadband plan bundled with the UNI5G Postpaid Unlimited 5G+4G mobile data plan. This package promises exceptional connectivity experiences, available through a three-year contract, and even includes a free 5G smartphone to make 5G technology more accessible to Malaysians.

TM remains committed to delivering innovative solutions and services that propel Malaysia toward its goal of becoming a digital nation. By increasing internet speeds while simultaneously lowering prices, Unifi is enhancing access to digital opportunities for all customer segments.

In keeping with their dedication to digital inclusivity, Unifi continues to offer the Pakej Rahmah Unifi, catering to specific customer groups and underserved communities. This inclusive plan provides unlimited 30 Mbps fixed broadband at an affordable rate of RM69 per month, supporting the government's ongoing efforts to advance digital opportunities for all Malaysians.

Additionally, Unifi has reduced the prices of all Unifi Biz Fibre offerings, ranging from 100 Mbps to 2 Gbps, specifically targeting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This pricing adjustment aims to facilitate digital adoption among MSMEs, ensuring their success in the digital economy.

Fahmi Fadzil also emphasized the government's efforts to provide affordable internet services to the public, including more affordable prepaid internet options, underlining the importance of accessible internet services for all Malaysians. Furthermore, he warned against exploiting sensitive issues like race, religion, and the royal institution during state elections, emphasizing that legal action would be taken against individuals or groups engaging in such behavior.
