24/07/2023 (Shah Alam, Malaysia) - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is poised to receive a significant upgrade to its internet services with the imminent arrival of 10 Starlink satellite devices. The devices will be distributed across various branch campuses, marking a significant step in the government's efforts to enhance internet connectivity.
Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, identified Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan as one of the campuses likely to benefit from the new devices in the immediate future. This follows a series of discussions with UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Roziah Janor.
Fadzil expressed optimism that the use of Starlink technology, as endorsed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, could bring substantial benefits to several UiTM campuses, including those in Kuala Pilah, Perak, Tawau, and Sarawak.
Fadzil anticipates the receipt of at least 10 Starlink units within the week and plans to coordinate the handover process with the Prime Minister's Office.
In a recent social media update, Fadzil revealed that Starlink's internet services would initially be rolled out in higher education institutions (HEIs) and schools, in line with Anwar's previous announcement.
On July 15, Anwar disclosed the government's plan to deploy 40 Starlink satellite devices in HEIs. The move aims to enhance the breadth and speed of internet access on campuses, thereby facilitating the learning process.
This initiative was inspired by a recent virtual meeting with SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, as shared by Anwar.
