MALAYSIA, 26/11/2024 (Asia News Channels) - Mainland China has announced an extension to its visa-free travel policy for Malaysian citizens, increasing the permitted stay from 15 days to 30 days. The new regulation will take effect on 30 November 2024 and remain valid until 31 December 2025, according to an official statement by the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia.
The Embassy detailed that the extended 30-day visa exemption applies to Malaysian ordinary passport holders visiting China for purposes such as business, tourism, family visits, transit, and cultural exchange programs. The announcement emphasized that travelers whose reasons for entry fall outside these categories must still apply for a visa.
Previously, Malaysians have been eligible for a 15-day visa-free stay in China since 1 December 2023. The reciprocal policy allows Chinese nationals visa-free entry into Malaysia for up to 30 days, also effective from the same date.
The move to lengthen the visa-free duration was reportedly finalized during the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, celebrated in May 2024. This milestone reflects strengthening ties between the two nations and aims to encourage tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.
The visa policy update is part of China’s broader effort to streamline travel for Malaysian citizens, aligning with Malaysia’s own visa waiver for Chinese visitors.
For Malaysian travelers planning trips beyond 2025 or outside the scope of the visa exemption, visa application requirements remain unchanged.
