INDONESIA, 10/10/2024 (Asia News Channels) - The Indonesian government has officially banned the sale of Apple's iPhone 16 Series in the country. According to Indonesia’s Industry Minister, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Apple has yet to meet specific requirements, including fulfilling its investment commitments and renewing its local content certification, known as TKDN.
Minister Agus confirmed that Apple has only realized IDR1.48 trillion (approximately RM405.76 million) of its total commitment of IDR1.71 trillion (around RM467.5 million). Until the full investment is realized, Apple will not be able to renew its TKDN certification, which is mandatory for selling products in Indonesia.
Furthermore, the company’s existing TKDN certification has expired. To regain market access for the iPhone 16 Series, Apple must renew the certificate by fulfilling its investment promises. Agus hinted that additional investments may also be required for the certification to be reinstated.
Once the requirements are met, Apple products will be eligible for a 40% TKDN value, allowing the iPhone 16 Series and other mobile network-enabled products to re-enter the Indonesian market.
Previously, Apple had obtained the necessary certification to sell its products in the country, but the expiration of its TKDN license and the shortfall in its investment commitments have resulted in the current ban.
