26/10/2023 (China) - Gulf Air, recognized as one of the pioneering commercial airlines in the Middle East since its inception in 1950, is set to augment its operations into China by January 2024. This move comes as part of the airline's deliberate growth strategy and is in alignment with the national Economic Recovery Plan of Bahrain. Expanding its Asia-Pacific footprint, this development also backs the One Belt One Road initiative by China.
Details of this extension into China were unveiled during the Bahrain-China Investment Forum, an event organized by the Economic Development Board of Bahrain. The forum also marked the presence of a notable delegation from Bahrain led by H.E. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, the Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Dr. Jeffrey Goh, the Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Air Group Holding, expressed enthusiasm about this new venture. He stated, "We are excited by the opportunity to expand our presence in the Asia-Pacific region with new flights connecting Bahrain and the cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai in China." Dr. Goh further emphasized the significance of China as a rapidly growing global economy and a major player in the international tourism sector. He continued, "These flights will offer greater choice and flexible travel experiences for passengers and create new pipelines for trade, tourism and collaboration, benefitting both nations."
With China's rich cultural and economic landscape, it remains a top choice for both leisure and business travelers. Gulf Air's new routes to Guangzhou and Shanghai are anticipated to further solidify the existing 30-year trade and tourism partnership between the nations.
Designed for maximum convenience, the flight schedules ensure seamless connections between China and Gulf Air's destinations in the Middle East and Europe. Gulf Air has confirmed that the routes will be serviced by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering passengers two cabin choices. The business class boasts some of the industry's most spacious premium seats, while the economy class offers cutting-edge seating comfort.
On the prospect of the new flights, Goh added, "We are confident these new flights will be appreciated by the international business community and those seeking exciting new leisure destinations and those simply looking to visit friends and family. We are equally confident that customers will enjoy our renowned Arabian hospitality on board."
