06/11/2023 (Malaysia) - Malaysian carrier Firefly, part of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), today announced the debut of its first flight operation using jet aircraft from Penang International Airport (PEN) to Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) in Bangkok. In a statement released, MAG's CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi highlighted this move as a commitment to strengthen Firefly's presence across the ASEAN region.
Ahmad Luqman articulated the strategic intent behind the launch, emphasizing its alignment with Firefly's dedication to growth in northern hubs and the enhancement of regional accessibility for domestic travelers. The initiative also aims to open doors for international visitors, which is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and foreign investment.
"We are excited about the prospects of fostering increased interconnectivity and significantly contributing to tourism," he stated.
The new route will be serviced five times a week by the company's Boeing 737-800 aircraft. With this addition, Firefly aims to enrich connectivity within ASEAN, support economic activities, and further position itself as a key player in the regional aviation market.
